Conclusion

Impossible to Possible

[NASA, 2017]

Space exploration became the barrier that the Soviet Union and the United States chose to seek to break in the late 50’s into the early 60’s.  The Soviet Union took an early lead in what has been named the ‘Space Race’ in their successful launch of Sputnik in early October 1957. With the U.S.’s decision to make the Apollo program the highest priority in research and development the U.S.’s dream to send men into space became a reality on July 16,1969 when NASA launched Saturn V into the moon’s orbit carrying three astronauts.  This mission became a human historical event when Neil Armstrong became the first human to step foot on the moon breaking another space exploration barrier. Apollo 11’s accomplishments have had profound impacts on the possibilities to break even more barriers in space exploration. In fact, today there is a program called SpaceX in which there are several objectives including the first rocket to Mars. Apollo 11 was the catalyst in opening a gateway for future impossible space exploration barriers to become possible.
